Repairs, Servicing, Customising, Upgrades etc
Unless
we've made a different arrangement I do things in two stages:
1)
£30 bench fee to open it up, stick in a probe or two and work out
what's wrong - and for the labour to fix it too, if it takes less than
an hour.
2)
£30 per hour after that. If you want to say "call me if it's
looking like it'll cost more than £100" or whatever, I will. If
it looks to me like an uneconomical repair, ie will cost distinctly
more than a replacement amp would, I will call you.
3) Minor parts are included in the hourly rate. Bigger things like
valves, output transistors, transformers etc will be charged. I charge
£10 for a preamp valve or an EL84, £15 for a power valve
for the more usual types.
4) In the
unlikely event that I can’t tell what’s essentially wrong with
your amp there will be no charge.
5) Further
to
that, in the most unlikely event that I simply fail to fix it my rule
is: no fix no fee.
Please
don’t give me your amp if you’re not willing to spend £30 finding
out that it’s not economical to repair.
NB TERMS OF BUSINESS
My terms are strictly cash only on collection of the
repaired unit except by prior arrangement.
GUARANTEE
In general, I propose to do
things properly. I guarantee that what I’ve
charged you for is what I’ve done; that I use reliable parts that won't
fail unreasonably quickly; that the bits I've fixed won't come unfixed
because
I didn't fix them right; that I didn't unfix anything else while
I was fixing it... and that if I do fail you in any of these ways I
will put it right for nothing if you bring the amp back to me.
I can’t and don't guarantee
that
something different from the thing I fixed won’t go wrong tomorrow.
